Economia, Sociedade e Território: olhares sobre a metrópole do Rio de Janeiro

A coletânea “Economia, Sociedade e Território” reúne dez textos que investigam diferentes dimensões da vida numa grande metrópole, buscando-se compreender os mecanismos reprodutores das desigualdades socioespaciais e, portanto, de poder, em vigor no território fluminense. Sob uma perspectiva socioeconômica, temos cinco textos, sendo dois voltados para a dinâmica produtiva da metrópole do Rio de Janeiro e os outros três, para a territorialidade intra-metropolitana do mercado de trabalho.

A segregação residencial aparece como uma variável importante para que se entenda, de um ponto de vista analítico, os mecanismos que produzem/reproduzem as desigualdades de aceso ao trabalho. Sob uma perspectiva sócio-demográfica, temos dois textos que introduzem a dimensão espacial intra-urbana nas análises sobre estrutura etária, fecundidade, mortalidade, arranjo familiar e mobilidade. Por fim, sob uma perspectiva sócio-cultura, reunimos três trabalhos dedicados à desigualdade educacional, à desigualdade racial e à violência urbana.

Synopsis

The compilation “Economy, Society and Territory” brings together ten texts that investigate different dimensions of life in a big city, trying to understand the mechanisms that produce spatial – and therefore power – inequalities in Rio. Five of the texts come from a socioeconomic perspective: two addressing the productive dynamics of the metropolis, and the other three looking at the territorial features of the labor market.

Residential segregation emerges as an important variable for an analytical understanding of the the mechanisms that produce and reproduce inequalities in access to employment. From a socio-demographic perspective, two texts examine the spatial dimensions of age structure, fertility, mortality, family arrangement and mobility. Finally, from a socio-cultural perspective, three papers are devoted to the themes of educational inequality, racial inequality and urban violence.
